There’s no doubt that investing in a few colourful blouses and chinos will uplift your dressing drill. But sometimes a little piece of bright exuberance in the form of jewels will take things even further. As this photo from NYFW illustrates, nothing illuminates a look like accessories in vivid colours. When gold, silver and copper have gotten the best of you, it’s clear that your wardrobe is starving for the cerulean, orange, azure and lime shades that have enchanted the accessory world as of late. I know mine is. There’s nothing more invigorating than owning a little piece of vibrance, possessing the power to transform any dull ensemble you find yourself in. Rather than hunting down a kaleidoscope of colours to reinvigorate your wardrobe, consider the potential of these brilliant pieces …it may just be the punch your garments are thirsty for.

Somehow, another season is upon us, and we are thrust into that length of time when closet cravings are at their peak. Although the prospect of a fresh, warm season is thrilling, it also makes the styling process that much more daunting. Suddenly we are inclined to add pops of colour to every look, showing a bit more skin with each Celsius incline and all the while patiently sifting out the warm wools for the light linens.
Of course, last year’s stock of Spring pieces never quite seem good enough for us this time around. So begins the cycle…what does my wardrobe need this season?
The best part about Spring – other than the lively weather and the newfound urge we all have to sit on patios and go for walks – is the colour. Some years, the shade on everybody’s lips is coral, others it’s yellow, more recently it’s been colour blocking that has everyone’s attention, and more often that not, pastel colours are a must-have. This year, a refreshing take on traditional pastels has arisen – denoting flavours of mint, apricot, raspberry and lemon. Blouses, loafers, skirts and tanks are delicious in these shades, making my cravings turn from ice cream cones to silk sorbet. A new-found adoration that holds no hidden calories, but only implicates a small dent on your credit card – which is worse?

Some videos I thought I’d share this morning.

Carine Roitfeld, editor-in-chief at Vogue Paris until resigning last year, is one of the most powerful fashion influencers in the world. W Magazine recently followed Carine to all of the Couture shows, where she became “the client”, selecting pieces for herself rather than the magazine as she is used to. Watching her joke around with Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, Jean Paul Gaulthier, and so many others, is priceless.

The newest fashion documentary isn’t about a fashion house, a trend or a magazine. It’s about a thing you wouldn’t otherwise consider; a New York fashion week tent. Here, the trailer for the film shows us a bit about the tent’s importance and evolution, with interviews from designers and editors like Carolina Herrera, Nina Garcia, Donna Karan and Betsy Johnson.

Karl Lagerfeld’s new self-titled collection was recently launched on, the largest luxury e-tailer in the world. To introduce the collection, NAP staged a “Face to Face” interview where Karl asks himself questions, showing us his inquisitive side as well as his honest self. At one point he says, “it is up to you to make everyday perfect” – Chanel’s creative director will always be flawless in my books.

Click Refresh

by Kaylee Pare

You’re perusing your usual stores, picking up items that any of your friends would suspect you’d like. An item that is a little risqué, out of the ordinary or truly outside of the ‘box’, catches your eye, and instead of including it in your pile of choices, you put it down in fear of making an experimental purchase. This is a regular practice in many of our shopping routines; we subconsciously steer clear of radical items, even though they have stopped us in our tracks. With the dawn of a new year comes opportunity for change. Most of us have resolved to adjust certain parts of our lives, and a fairly easy and effective modification is to rethink every shopping decision we make. The next time you’re clicking ‘add to bag’ or examining a price tag, think about whether your closet needs a rejuvenation, and most importantly, whether this item will accomplish that. In short, click refresh and push the envelope. 2012 is your blank canvas.

It’s Irrefutable

by Kaylee Pare

It’s truly irrefutable. As much as we would like to say that we are not the ‘glitter-wearing’ kind, or we intend to stand-out by wearing items that do just the opposite…there’s no denying that a part of us is inclined to bear at least one piece of radiance on New Year’s Eve. It is convention – and some may say cliché – to exhibit our most shine-worthy items while ringing in the new year and I dare say, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s only natural to reach for a glitter-sprinkled blouse, thoroughly sequined leggings or those sparkly pumps you only dared to wear on your birthday. If you can’t imitate a starry night on the evening where millions of people are throwing confetti, drinking bubbly and counting down to midnight – then, quite frankly, when can you?
