Top it Off

by Kaylee Pare

With March in our midst, I’m beginning to dream of the day when my bulky Winter coat can be traded in for a fitted wool blazer or a light Spring jacket. The novelty of sporting thinner layers that don’t contain down feathers really never gets old after months of Michelin-man-impersonations. One or two lovely statement frocks is what my Spring wardrobe needs for that revived feeling to truly last. My worn-out leather jacket will always be there, but a stand-out colour, some feather detail or a bold pattern certainly wouldn’t hurt. Whether an outfit is lacking in substance or it’s asking for a touch more texture, a unique jacket is the ultimate way to top it all off this Spring. Is your closet well stocked for the upcoming season?

The Spring 2012 Couture shows have come to a close and as usual, designers have implemented corresponding elements in contrasting ways, making all of us writers categorize groups of looks into ‘trends‘. As much as I know that this type of content will be repeated on multiple platforms in similar manners, I believe looking at individual pieces by style is more worthwhile for us regular shoppers than looking at a collection in its entirety. Here, with looks by Chanel, Giambattista Valli and Elie Saab, three-dimensional florals are abundant. On everything from coats and skirts to tops and gowns, 3-D arrangements make dainty petals a little more bold, and a little less bland. If anything, they are reminiscent of ‘he loves me, he loves me not’ moments.

Think Spring

by Kaylee Pare

While your neighbourhood stores may be pushing Fall items right now, designers have moved on to bigger and better things, like Spring collections. Women’s Wear Daily got a sneak peek of some of the 2012 accessories collections and shared the sketches with their subscribers, and I in turn, am sharing them with you! I’d have to say that at first glance, my favourites are Oscar de la Renta, Nicolas Kirkwood and Maxmara but we’ll have to see how it all turns out on the runway! Can you pick a favourite?
